Personal Watercraft

Underwriting Eligibility

Acceptable watercraft includes the following, but are not limited to:

  • Personal Watercraft
  • Jet Ski®
  • Wave Runner®

In addition, these watercraft must be:

  1. No more than 14 feet in length,
  2. Operated on the navigable waters of the United States and Canada, including coastal waters up to 10 miles from the coast, and
  3. Owned and operated by the Insured and family members of the same household or permissive users.

Unacceptable Risks-DO NOT BIND

Jet boats, which are typically designed to hold more than 4 people, powered by jet propulsion and greater than 14 feet in length, are not eligible for this program and may be referred to our Family Boaters program.

  1. Personal watercraft used for business or commercial purposes including emergency services. Exception: Personal watercraft titled in the name of business for tax purposes.
  2. Personal watercraft rented or leased to others.
  3. Personal watercraft used in speed contests or racing.
  4. Personal watercraft which have had the engines and water jet pumps modified or altered from the manufacturer's specifications unless required by a product recall.
  5. Amphibious vehicles.
  6. Persons whose automobile, vessel, personal watercraft or recreational vehicle insurance has been cancelled for underwriting reasons in the past three years.
  7. Operators under 14 years of age.
  8. Persons who have had personal watercraft or vessel losses in the last three years consisting of:
    • 2 Bodily Injury liability claims; or
    • 2 Fire losses; or
    • 2 Pollution claims; or
    • 3 Property Damage liability claims; or
    • 2 Sinking/Upset losses; or
    • 2 Total theft losses; or
    • 3 Partial theft losses.
